Hide or Die Beginner Guide
Last updated:
New player guide to Hide or Die: teams, morphing, anchoring, whistling, coins, and first-match survival on Roblox.
Your First Match
Hide or Die by Splitbrick Studio drops you into a lobby until the player threshold triggers a round. You receive either Hider or Seeker assignment randomly unless party settings dictate otherwise. Hiders spawn with morph capability; Seekers spawn with hunting weapons and detection tools after a brief grace period.
Do not panic if your first role is Seeker—observing how experienced Hiders blend teaches prop hunt fundamentals faster than hiding poorly alone. Watch which objects players morph into on the School map: chairs, books, lockers, and trash bins appear constantly, revealing believable prop sizes for future Hider rounds.
Round objectives display on HUD—confirm win conditions each match because mode variants may differ between public queues and event lobbies.
Essential Hider Mechanics
Press F on PC or the morph button on mobile and console while facing a valid prop to transform. Your hitbox matches the prop, but subtle animation or floating can betray you—use the Anchor button to lock position and orientation. Reposition by unmorphing, moving, and morphing again before Seekers arrive.
Every 30 seconds, you must whistle when prompted. The whistle reveals approximate location to Seekers, so prepare safe spots where partial exposure still beats running in open hallways. Missing whistles risks penalties or elimination depending on current game rules—treat whistle timing as non-negotiable.
Start on School where prop density forgives early mistakes—graduate to Office and Hospital after five comfortable Hider wins.
Seeker Basics
Seekers win by eliminating all Hiders or surviving until time expires with Hiders still hidden—mode variants may differ, so read the round objective HUD each match. Shoot or melee suspicious props, listen for whistle directionality, and use powers like Freeze to lock fleeing objects.
Avoid spraying every prop indiscriminately. Efficient Seekers develop mental models of plausible placements: a vending machine in a classroom corner might fit; one floating mid-air does not. Learn map layouts via our School map guide first—it is the most beginner-friendly environment.
Headphones dramatically improve whistle triangulation—even basic stereo earbuds help more than phone speakers in public lobbies.
Economy and Progression
Matches award coins for participation, survival, and eliminations. Redeem active codes for an early coin boost. Spend first coins on versatile powers—Speed and Healing benefit new Hiders universally; Seekers often start with Freeze.
Season 1 Battle Pass spans 30 tiers with cosmetic and currency rewards. Game Passes offer permanent perks but require Robux. Free players can still compete by mastering mechanics before cosmetics. Review controls for your platform to reduce input friction during critical whistle moments.
Prioritize powers before crates—permanent abilities affect win rate; cosmetics do not. Consult our powers tier list before first purchase.
